Volunteer Reception

Douglas County Historical Society honored its volunteers at a reception held on April 26 at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center in Gardnerville. The event was held in the Main Gallery and featured tables laden with hors d’oeuvres and exquisite floral arrangements. Volunteers were each given a specially engraved wine glass to commemorate the occasion.

When asked about the volunteer staff, Historical Society president, Grace Bower, said, “We thank our volunteers. They are our most valuable asset. Both of our museums can always use more volunteers.”

The Society has been dependent upon its volunteers since its inception in 1969. The Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center and Courthouse Museum is managed and staffed by volunteers.

The Historical Society receives its support from admissions, fundraisers, memorials, grants, donations, museum stores and room rentals. They receive no regular state or county funding. All of the committees, including fundraising, planning and education, are manned by volunteers. Please call DCHS at 782-2555 to inquire about volunteer opportunities.
