When did the Tigers become the Douglas High School Tigers?
Volunteers Joan Hall and Sue Price researched the old Douglas High School yearbooks in the Van Sickle Library at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center and discovered that the Douglas High School football team referred to themselves as the Tigers in 1934, according to the 1934 Tiger Yearbook.
In 1939 the Douglas High School yearbook changed its name from the Tigers to the
Garminada. Just in case you are wondering, “Garminada” stands for Gardnerville, Minden, and Nevada.
For two years, from 1934 to the fall of 1936, Douglas High School organized themselves as a football team. In the fall of 1936, the Tigers played their first football game and were defeated 34-0.
